New Release: Tanzanian 1000 Shilling Lake Tanganyika Catfish Legal Tender Gold Bill

We are pleased to announce that the Bank of Tanzania is issuing a new legal tender Aurum® bill this month. The 1000 Shilling Lake Tanganyika Catfish gold bill is the fifth legal tender issue using Valaurum’s patented, proprietary Aurum® technology.

Each bill contains 1/1000th oz of 24k gold and incorporates advanced security features throughout the artwork for a secure and verifiable way to invest in gold. As with all of our Aurum® products, 24k gold is visible throughout each bill from edge to edge and is fully recoverable using standard fire assay techniques. 

Both sides of this unique bill include aquatic colors, themes, and shapes. A large Cuckoo Catfish (Synodontis Multipunctatus),found exclusively in Lake Tanganyika, is depicted in detail on the obverse. The reverse showcases a Dhow, a traditional sailing vessel used for fishing and transportation on Lake Tanganyika. Additional elements include aerial silhouettes of Lake Tanganyika and Tanzania and the outline of several catfish. The border includes patterning drawn from local textiles and prints in addition to a second central band that incorporates a repeating motif of the Tanzanian Coat of Arms.
