New Release: Tanzanian 1000 Shilling Kituo Cha Kigoma Gold Bill

The 1000 Shilling Kituo Cha Kigoma Aurum® is one of two legal tender bills issued by the Bank of Tanzania. This two-sided bill celebrates the unique cultures of both Tanzania (obverse artwork) and Zanzibar (reverse artwork) while incorporating the element of water throughout the bill.

This Tanzanian bill showcases two-sided printing with detailed artwork of notable cultural, geographical, and natural elements. Advanced security features are embedded throughout the artwork on both sides of the bill for a secure and verifiable way to invest in 24 karat gold.

As with all of our Aurum® products, 24 karat gold is visible throughout each bill from edge to edge and is fully recoverable using standard fire assay techniques.

Artwork details:

The obverse artwork celebrates the Kigoma Railway Station on Lake Tanganyika and a large native Cuckoo Catfish. An Ujamaa or “Tree of Life” wood carving created by the Makonde tribe runs vertically on the left side of the bill. All three elements are set on a repeating wave pattern with additional silhouettes of the catfish throughout the design.

The reverse includes an aerial view of Stonetown, Zanzibar’s largest city, with the House of Wonders in the foreground. Supporting elements include the Red Colobus Monkey and a traditional ornately carved wooden door. The “1000” shilling denomination seal and borders incorporate traditional Kitenge patterns and security elements.

The Republic of Tanzania was officially formed in 1964 when mainland Tanganyika and the Zanzibar Archipelago united.
