Description
The obverse artwork celebrates the Kigoma Railway Station on Lake Tanganyika and a large native Cuckoo Catfish. An Ujamaa or “Tree of Life” wood carving created by the Makonde tribe runs vertically on the left side of the Tanzanian 1000 Shilling Kituo Cha Kigoma Aurum® bill. All three elements are set in a repeating wave pattern with additional silhouettes of the catfish throughout the design.
The reverse includes an aerial view of Stonetown, Zanzibar’s largest city, with the House of Wonders in the foreground. Supporting elements include the Red Colobus Monkey and a traditional ornately carved wooden door. The “1000” shilling denomination seal and borders incorporate traditional Kitenge patterns and security elements.
